I'm somewhere else today

I'm filling in for Florinda as she heals from shoulder surgery. She let me talk about my favorite book that I've read over the past year; The Breach by Patrick Lee. Go to Florinda's site and read it quick. With the loss of readership she'll get from me filling in, she might not keep the post up long!

I'm kidding of course, she would never pull the post down. I don't think.

So nice!

Look what Dreamybee over at Subliminal Intervention gave me:

Proximidade Award

"This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes of self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

That was nice, wasn't it? I'm not so sure I would be considered charming, as the award states, but hey, it's nice to get things like this. At least I know some people are reading and enjoying what I write.

So now the hard part. I always have trouble with giving these to other people. Not that others aren't deserving, it's just that I don't "know" that many people well enough to give this to, but I have a few. Oh, and it doesn't help that this comes from one of my regular reads, and that Dreamybee gave one to Florinda already. I will do my best.

Karen over at Outpost Mavarin: She keeps us busy with the weekend assignments and with great pictures, and stories of her dogs. Plus, I kind of owe her something for not having sent any weekend assignment ideas yet. I will! I swear!

Mr. Unfocused at The Unfocused Life: It's been fun reading about his novel work, and general life stories. I seriously don't know how he he gets everything done.

Cookie over at Shut up and Knit. I'm am not a knitter by any stretch of the imagination, but she always has something witty to say, and drops by here often.

Oh, I would give one to DC of Green Apples & Kool Aid, but she is on a blogging hiatus. Maybe this will bring her back!

I almost forgot Carly. Actually I didn't forget, as much as I forgot to write it in here. Carly runs the Photo shoot Monday's over at Ellipsis, she took over from Karen awhile ago, and has been keeping me busy with my camera.

So, thanks again, and go check out the other people.

If you only check out one photo online today...

...make it this one. Yes, that is a real person. Sure, she looks like she is made out of beef jerky, but she is real.

Make sure you listen to the podcast, too. It's pretty damn funny.

Fun on Google

I didn't know what to post about tonight, so I was playing around and went to Google Trends to see what the kids are looking up.

Number three on the list is 2007. So a lot of people are looking up last year? It ended less than six months ago, what could everybody forget all ready? Number 16 is the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Maybe a lot of people were too lazy to type all that in and figured Google would know what they were really looking for. Or, maybe they were too drunk to type in anything more than numbers. Tough call.

Tanya Harding is number twenty-one. Way to bring yourself back into the news! It seems she has a book out, but I don't care enough to put the effort into clicking on the link. If you really want to know you can google it. You may just bring her up to the top twenty!

Twenty-five is 'zxbfwwr'. More drunk people. I didn't think you could type gibberish when you were drunk. I think I have been proven wrong.

Anna Nicole Smith just jumped from number 26 to number ten in the time I've been writing. Her mom is suing TMZ and Howard K Stern for tarnishing her image. Let that sink in for a minute. I don't think I need to say anything else, do I?

For some reason James Van Praagh is number 15. I guess he's making the rounds on TV trying to make people believe he is talking to dead people. I'm not a big fan. Can you tell?

That's about a ll the fun stuff in Google today. I might try to fit this in as a regular feature. Wouldn't that be exciting?

For you parents of young kids

I bring you this. I'm not going to show a picture, or say anything else. Just go there and see if it is something you think you need. Personally I think it is gross, but hey, someone thought of this and is selling it. That is the American dream, right?

Ten on Tuesday on...er...Friday.

I picked this up from Florinda who does it every week, though this week she was a little late. I haven't done the list before, but I thought the subject was perfect. You can find the original post over at Ten on Tuesday. Makes sense, huh?

Anyway this week the topic was then things you'd fix in your home if you had the time and money. Only ten?

1. New siding. Our house is 39 years old and so is the siding. Enough said.

2. New driveway. The driveway isn't all that old, but two owners ago did a poor job of repairing it.

3. Landscaping. Some of it is pretty sad.

4. New master bath. The vanity is as old as I am, and doesn't look much better.

5. New carpeting. We are going to wait until the kids are a little bigger, as well as the dog.

6. New cabinets in the kitchen. They aren't old. I just don't like them.

7. Some new windows. The previous owners replaced about one half. We need to finish.

8. Refinish the wood floor in the family room. See remark on number 5.

9. Fix up the garage. More shelving and cabinets. It's a disaster.

10. Replace the doors leading to the back of the house.

I could go on, but these are the most pressing issues.

OK, I have to go watch Battlestar Galactica now.
