Tagged: The 5 x 5 meme

Jenn tagged me last night with this one. Here are the rules. You know I'm not really going to follow them, right?

Rules: Each player answers the question themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blog and leaves them a comment letting them know that they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve answered the questions on your blog.


10 Years Ago (1998):

1. I started my current job at the end of 1998.
2. I had finished my second round of college.
3. My wife and I went out a lot more often since we didn't have children.
4. Because of #4 we tended to sleep really late on the weekends.
5. This was the last year of my twenties.


5 Things on Today's "To Do" List: (We'll look at tomorrow instead).

1. Get up on time to go to work.
2. Run. Either outside or at the gym.
3. Get stamps. I have a few things to mail.
4. Deposit a check.
5. Try to be less lame and come up with better things to do.


5 Things that I would do if I were a millionaire:

1. Quit my job and work part time at a golf course in the summer, and a bookstore in the winter. Or move somewhere with no winters.
2. Get my Porsche.
3. Go on a long vacation. Maybe rent out a giant yacht to cruise around the Hawaiian Islands.
4. Buy some lottery tickets. You can never have too much money. Since I'm rich I can buy so many that my odds are better, right? (Yes, I'm kidding).
5. Learn to play polo. Just to fit in.


5 Places I have lived:

1. Mount Prospect, Il
2. DeKalb, Il
3. Schaumburg, Il
Does it count if I lived in two different places in DeKalb and Schaumburg? That would make it five. No, I haven't moved around much.


Jobs I have had:

1. Waiter. A few different places. Most recently (10+ years ago) at an Applebee's resturaunt.
2. Warehouse worker during two different summers. Easily the most physically demanding job I've had.
3. Manager of a Finish Line store. First job out of college (the first time). I didn't start out as the manager obviously, but I eft as one.
4. Sales Conselor at Circuit City. Second job out of college. It was fun at Christmas and the Fourth of July, otherwise it was boring and didn't pay well.
5. Service Adviser in the service department of a Chrysler dealership. It's fun dealing with people who are ticked off that their cars are broken.
(No, I'm not mentioning where I work now. Sorry.)

Six (more) things about me

I was tagged by Jenn to do the six things about me meme a week or so ago, I know I'm a slacker, but it is a holiday week! Anyway, I did this a couple months ago when Unfocused Me tagged me, but since Jenn is my wife, I think I should do it again. Jenn also told me I have to do six different things. I tried to be a slacker and copy my old one, but no, I have to think of six new things. Six! I'm really not all that interesting to begin with, but I'll give it the old college try. I think that means I have to drink a lot of beer before I do it, right? To bad I only have two in the fridge.

Enough stalling; on to the meme! (Now that I went to Jenn's blog to copy and paste I see that she tagged me on July 3rd. It's seems so long ago.)

On to the list (it is really taking a long time to get to it; I'm building tension).

1. I often relate things that are happening in real life to old, or not so old TV shows. Did you ever see Dream On when it was on HBO? I swear that main character was modeled after me. I don't do it quite as much as I used to, but Brady Bunch was often the go to reference.

2. I like music, but I need it to be perfect. By that I mean no static, no skipping, nothing that is going to distract me from enjoying it. Take today for example, I was listening to my iPod in the car and the cord that attaches to the headphone jack is getting lose. You know what I'm talking about, the headphone jack starts making crackling noises and you keep playing with the cord to find the perfect position then you put it back down and it starts again then you try to hold in on your lap and that only works until the first turn and your only option at that point is to drive off a cliff. Phew. Deep breaths. Oooom. Find your center. I'm okay now, really.

3. I'm afraid of heights. If I tried and stand near a ledge or railing that overlooks something over 15 feet high I get dizzy and think I'm going to fall. I mean I can actually see myself falling. It's weird. I'm okay in a plane though. Explain that one.

4. I was an extra in a movie once. The movie was Lucas with Corey Haim, Charlie sheen, and a few other notables, all of whom were unknown then. If you watch one of the shower scenes closely you can see me wearing a towel. It was an interesting, but long, two days spent on the set in a high school around here.

5. I am a nice guy, but I did break up with a girl on a day that just happened to be her birthday -- and Thanksgiving Day. Yeah, it wasn't pretty. But, in my defense, I did try to get out of going to her house that night since we had company at our house. Unfortunately, my mom was nice enough to let me go. The good part of the story is that I started going out with Jenn shortly after; she was basically the reason why I was breaking up with the other girl. See how good that worked out? Really I am a nice person. Most people don't believe I would do something like that. To be honest, I don't either.

6. When I was in college I use to write fiction in my free time. Mostly stuff like I was reading at the time; kind of horror, Twilight Zone-ish type stuff. Not that I don't read the same stuff now. I actually sent one story out to a contest once. I didn't win. The story was a mess really, I thought I was doing something different style-wise, but it was too hard to follow I think. Jenn liked some of it at the time, though maybe she was only being nice. I like writing here, maybe I'll do more fiction stuff. I don't know.

So there you go. I'm not really going to tag people, but if some people that come here want to do it (I'm looking at you Florinda and DC) you can. I just don't want anyone to feel obligated, especially if you've done it before. See, I'm nice and considerate no matter what #5 says!

Tagged: Six things about me

I was tagged by Unfocused Me (a few days ago, sorry it took so long) for a meme to write six things about me. Since Tuesday I wrote ten quirky things about me, I'll put six normal things. It's probably a good thing since my wife told me Tuesday's post made me seem a little unstable. I'm really not. Just quirky! There is a difference.

I might break a couple rules. Let's get to the six.

1. I was born in Chicago, grew up in the northwest suburbs, and I still live there. I never had a job offer out of the area, but I don't remember ever applying for one either.

2. I like infomercials. It's not that I want to buy the products, far from it, I enjoy the cheesiness (is that a real word?) of the commercials. Every product is revolutionary and is going to change the world. They always show someone incapable of doing a normal, everyday activity without hurting themselves; unless they use this awesome new product.

3. I like cars. I read Automobile magazine and drool over the cool cars that I will never be able to afford. I told my wife I want a used Porsche for my mid-life crisis car. We'll see how that goes.

4. I used to work for Applebee's. It's been about 10 years now, I worked there when I went back to school, but I have fond memories of the job. I waited tables and worked the bar. I had a lot of fun.

5. Since number 4 reminded me of it...I graduated from college in 1992 with a B.A in Psychology, worked in 'the real world' for a while, then went back to school in 1996. I graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology in 1998. No, I don't know what the weather is going to be tomorrow. But I can tell you why some things happened -- maybe.

6. I met my wife in college and we have been together ever since. We didn't get married right out of school, mostly to save money, but we knew we would. I never regret it for a minute.

OK, that was pretty normal. I'm not going to tag, but if anyone wants to do it let me know. I hope this one made me seem more normal.

My life in six words

This is a first for me. I was tagged by Florinda to do this six word memoir meme. Here is how it works. This was taken from Florinda's site which she got from Madame Meow:

I know. Six words? Seriously. No consideration for those among us who suffer from verborrhea, right? But don't let me stop your fun. First off, here are the official instructions:

2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like.
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere.
4. Tag five more blogs with links.

OK. Got all that? First, I'm going say I am not going to tag anybody else. Sorry, but I couldn't think of five to tag anyway. I'm too new to the blog world. Second, this is hard. As you can see by my previous posts, I tend to ramble. Succinct is not in my vocabulary.

Oh, I forgot, If you can't come up with one six-word memoir, six of them is fine. I think I am going that route. The more words, the better. Right?
